Heritability of Apis mellifera recapping behavior and suppressed mite reproduction as resistance traits towards Varroa destructor

چکیده
The selection of honeybee strains resistant to the ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor is generally considered as one most sustainable ways coping with this major bee parasite. Thus, breeding efforts increasingly focus on resistance parameters in addition common beekeeping traits like honey yield and gentleness. In every effort, success strongly depends quantifiability heritability accounted. To find suitable among manifold variants assess resistance, it necessary evaluate how easily a trait can be measured (i.e., testing effort) relation underlying expected transfer following generation). Various possible are described beneficial for colony survival presence therefore stocks around globe. Two them particular, suppressed reproduction (SMR, sensu lato any reproductive failure mother mites) recapping already sealed brood cells have recently gained increasing attention breeders because they closely resemble mechanisms some -surviving populations. However, was still unknown whether genetic background sufficient targeted selection. We investigated heritabilities correlations SMR REC, distinguishing between infested (RECinf) all (RECall), an extensive dataset Buckfast Carniolan stock Germany. With accessible h² 0.18 0.44 0.40 RECinf, both turned out very promising further Carnica population, respectively.

Three QTL in the honey bee Apis mellifera L. suppress reproduction of the parasitic mite Varroa destructor
Varroa destructor is a highly virulent ectoparasitic mite of the honey bee Apis mellifera and a major cause of colony losses for global apiculture. Typically, chemical treatment is essential to control the parasite population in the honey bee colony. Nevertheless a few honey bee populations survive mite infestation without any treatment. We used one such Varroa mite tolerant honey bee lineage f...

The ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor has become one of the major worldwide threats for apiculture. Varroa destructor attacks the honey bee Apis mellifera weakening its host by sucking hemolymph. However, the damage to bee colonies is not strictly related to the parasitic action of the mite but it derives, above all, from its action as vector increasing the transmission of many viral disease...

The parasitic mite Varroa destructor inXuences Xight behavior, orientation and returning success of forager honeybees (Apis mellifera) infested as adults. As impaired orientation toward the nest entrance might be due to deWciency in recognition and responsiveness to stimuli in the environment, we examined eVects of V. destructor on sensory responsiveness, nonassociative and associative learning...

Varroa destructor infestation of Apis mellifera colonies carries and/or promotes replication of honey bee viruses like the Deformed wing virus, the Varroa destructor virus-1, the Acute bee paralysis virus, the Israeli acute bee paralysis virus and the Kashmir bee virus that have been well described and characterized; but viruses exclusively associated with Varroa were not found. To look for vir...
متن کاملInfluence of Varroa Mite (Varroa destructor) Management Practices on Insecticide Sensitivity in the Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)
Since Varroa mites may cause devastating losses of honey bees through direct feeding, transmitting diseases, and increasing pathogen susceptibility, chemical and mechanical practices commonly are used to reduce mite infestation. While miticide applications are typically the most consistent and efficacious Varroa mite management method, miticide-induced insecticide synergism in honey bees, and t...
